The man’s captors told VICE World News that further attempts to rescue him could jeopardise his safety. Deep in the foggy wilds of the Papuan highlands, a platoon of Indonesian soldiers was combing the jungle, looking to rescue a New Zealand pilot who had been held by armed separatists for weeks and used as a pawn in a decadeslong conflict. Then the treeline came alive. The West Papua Liberation Army (TPNPB), an armed and fierce group of independence fighters, attacked the Indonesian soldiers’ military post in the northeastern corner of Papua’s Nduga regency on Saturday. At least six government soldiers…

ATLANTA — The Georgia House is telling cities and counties that they must enforce existing bans on public camping or sleeping by homeless people while saying local governments and hospitals can’t dump homeless people in other counties without permission. Residents of the Macon, Georgia, suburbs of Milledgeville, Linton, Beulah and Underwood were advised Sunday morning by the weather service to “take cover now.” A second tornado was confirmed to have touched down Sunday morning near LaGrange, Georgia, about 65 miles…

ATLANTA (AP) — America has honored Martin Luther King Jr. with a federal holiday for nearly four decades yet still hasn’t fully embraced and acted on the lessons from the slain civil rights leader, his youngest daughter said Monday. The Rev. Bernice King, who leads The King Center in Atlanta, said leaders — especially politicians — too often cheapen her father’s legacy into a “comfortable and convenient King” offering easy platitudes. “We love to quote King in and around the holiday. … But then we refuse to live King 365 days of the year,” she declared at the commemorative service…

Friday morning will see some of the coldest air in five years move into Georgia just in time for Christmas. The temperatures were already dropping on Tuesday as a light rain moved through Georgia. Some area in extreme north Georgia saw some patchy freezing drizzle in the higher elevations. Photos shared with FOX 5 from Sky Valley, Georgia, on the North Carolina line show exactly that. Do not discount the possibility of sleet, freezing rain, or a wintry mix overnight into Wednesday morning, but there should not be an accumulation. The remainder of the week will be cloudy and cool. Showers will switch…
