For the third straight season in a row, the Georgia Bulldogs have clinched the SEC’s Eastern division. Punching their ticket to Atlanta for the 2023 SEC Championship.
The Dawgs clinched the division after the Tennessee Volunteers suffered a loss to the Missouri Tigers earlier this afternoon. With the loss, there is no mathematical possibility that the Volunteers, even though the Bulldogs have yet to defeat their opponent for the day, the Ole Miss Rebels. The Bulldogs and Volunteers will face off next Saturday in Leyland Stadium.
Since the Vols lost earlier in the day, Georgia did not need to win tonight against Ole Miss, but they sure made a statement Between the Hedges tonight. Defeating the Rebels 52-17, the Dawgs make a strong case for the number one spot in the College Football Playoff rankings with two straight top-12 wins.
Meeting Georgia in Atlanta will be the Alabama Crimson Tide. A fitting end to the division era of SEC football, with Texas and Oklahoma joining the conference in 2024 and the SEC wiping away divisions. The Crimson Tide clinched their spot in the SEC Championship Game after picking up an impressive victory against the Kentucky Wildcats, defeating them in Lexington by a score of 49-21.
